Mark 14:27 On the way, Jesus told them,
“All of you will desert me. For the Scriptures say,
‘God will strike the Shepherd,
and the sheep will be scattered.’
Jesus using the Old Testament to show that He is the Messiah. When He does this, He is also expanding the Old Testament and giving this scripture meaning that they didn't know it had.
I listened to a really great message on how Jesus did not just fulfill the prophecies of the Old Testament but the fulfilled the Old Testament on Discovering the Jewish Jesus broadcast.
It is the first in series. Messianic prophecy is not just a prediction of something that is to happen in the future. Jesus completes the Old Testament. So many cool things in it that I cannot adequately share. I encourage you to give it a listen.
