October 31, 2026 -Heart Position Provides Contentment

“[23] Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”
Proverbs 4:23 NIV
The position of our heart will direct and control every aspect of our lives. How we view everything that happens in our lives is seen through the lens of our heart position. When the position is from the position of our knees before God with our hand open to Him in humble submission we will respond in a completely different way. But the world teaches us to view everything from the position of standing tall and strong for your own self-interest holding onto what is ours. And our world is full of evidence that most people have that kind of heart. The position of our heart will show what we love.
“[5] Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.””
Hebrews 13:5 NIV
This is a commonly miss quoted concept. 1Timothy 6:10 says the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil but people will quote it as money is the root of all evil. Here in Hebrews we are told to "Keep your lives free from the love of money". And we also see what it looks like to have a heart that is free from the love of money. If the position of your heart is from your knees with your hands open to Jesus, then you will "be content with what you have". We can guard our hearts from the love of money by remembering that God has said, "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you." If the position of our heart is on ourselves and what we want then we will love money and never find contentment.
I love how God ties everything together. After reading this morning I got in the car and the below message was on Focus on the Family. Which talks about all this.
