September 9, 2026 - Firm in Faith
Colossians 2:5-10 NIV
[5] For though I am absent from you in body, I am present with you in spirit and delight to see how disciplined you are and how firm your faith in Christ is. [6] So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, [7] rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness. [8] See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces of this world rather than on Christ. [9] For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, [10] and in Christ you have been brought to fullness. He is the head over every power and authority.
I met with a couple of great young men who with the LDS (Mormon) church for the second time last night. They were grateful for our honest and respectful conversation. In the end I shared with them that my reason for meeting with them and to understand their beliefs is my love and concern for their salvation. And I shared the Gospel and grace of Jesus that He offers them which is different than the grace they believe in. One of them asked me to pray for the Spirit and to read the last chapter of the book of Mormon and he assured me that I would be filled with a burning inside my chest like I have never felt before. I did pray for the Spirit to show me truth. I asked that if there is truth in the book of Mormon that my chest would burn with that assurance just as he spoke. I read with a sincere heart and nothing happened. I have pretty much been in continuous prayer since I met them the first time on Saturday. This morning when I read I felt the assurance and peace as Colossians speaks to me in assurance of my faith and to remain firm. And the reading in Isaiah speaks to the condition of the heart of the Mormon church. I am not saying that the book of Isaiah was written to the LDS church but I see their teachings to fall into the same error of the Judah and Jerusalem. One of my questions for them was how they can put a higher level of trust into the book of Mormon that they only have the testimony of human witnesses to the existence of the writings it is based on, than on the bible that has hundreds of original texts written by people who lived and walked with Jesus. The bible has shown us the nature of God to be consistent and true through all of scripture. God does not change and he would not give a revelation to any human that contradicts the bible. I know that they have answers for every question,
but I am praying that the true Spirit of God will open their hearts and minds to the truth. I have assured them of my love for them and hope that they do honestly believe me when I say that they can knock on my door anytime.
Isaiah 2:22 NIV
[22] Stop trusting in mere humans, who have but a breath in their nostrils. Why hold them in esteem?
